Title: Reservoir Dogs
Post by: Jelence on August 14, 2011, 04:44:33 PM

Kaze Blue "Da nije prisluskivac?" Muk.

Sto ti je arogancija moći

WHEN Mark William Standen was arrested in the basement of the highly secretive Crime Commission headquarters, he thought the detectives were playing a practical joke.

They weren't - and the handcuffs proved it.

Retaining a supremely composed and confident exterior, Standen spent the next four hours trying to explain away the mess police had, to his mind, so wildly misinterpreted.

But even as his barrister banged down the door of the interview room and forced him to stop talking, Standen clung to the notion he was fully in control of the situation.

"Hopefully at some stage I'll put you further in the correct picture of all that I know happened," he said.

That was on June 2, 2008 - and what he still hadn't grasped was that his world had already come crashing down.

Deceived Louise Baker in bed with crooked cop Mark Standen

Lisa Davies From: The Daily Telegraph August 12, 2011 12:00AM

SHE was a young, junior surveillance monitor, he was her boss - a married man with an alluring mix of power, charm and influence.

Louise Baker, then in her early 20s, clearly found Mark Standen irresistible - and he too was smitten beyond words.

Their "year together", as her private diary records, was punctuated with birthday presents, "Pretty Woman shopping" trips, diamond jewellery, meals in top restaurants and overnight stays in exclusive hotels.

What she didn't know then was that he was actually broke - just a financially stressed policeman who struggled to keep his debts at bay.

Behind the dinners at restaurants like Tetsuya's, a diamond ring worth more than $4,500, a Tiffany necklace worth $1,250 and a $2,485 Fendi bag for Christmas, Standen was in constant financial difficulty.

He told the court he just made his money go "around and around" to stay afloat.

But the bottom line never changed. He was, at his worst, more than $200,000 in the red.

Ms Baker, who was moved from the NSW Crime Commission to ICAC after their relationship became known, gave evidence at Standen's trial, stealing only occasional looks toward her former lover.

She said they celebrated their first anniversary at Rockpool restaurant, where he gave her a Chanel bag worth almost $3,000.

While he denied it, it was through Standen's relationship with Ms Baker that the jury saw his true character - and more than a hint of his ultimate goal.

In December 2007, police intercepted a text message he sent to Ms Baker that read: "Honey, you know how to get the most out of a holiday, retain those skills because within 20 weeks we will hit Bora or Maldives. I know that's longer than we planned but being realistic. Can't wait though. Plenty of fun to be had in the meantime ... "

Earlier that year Ms Baker accompanied Standen on a business class trip to Dubai - where, the jury found, he met co-conspirators to plan the shipment of drugs into Australia.
