Post by: Mirabella on September 25, 2012, 01:46:46 PM
Otvara 67. Zasedanje Generalne Skupstine UN-a.  Dobro govori, ubedljivo.  Sledeci je Brazil, pa Obama, pa Toma.  :?:

Because he can.

Ne ulazim u racionalnost, ciljeve, teznje itd. bilo koga i bilo cega.

Prosto, entities can.

Serbian diplomat said promoting himself for top UN post

Blic (Belgrade). [News Story]. 28/07/2014.

BBC Monitoring European

Text of report by Serbian newspaper Blic website on 25 July

[Report by Zeljka Jevtic: "We Reveal: Jeremic Putting Forth Own Candidacy for UN General Secretary"]

Blic learns that Former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has been posing as Serbia's candidate for UN General Secretary even though the Government has not adopted any such decision.

Jeremic immortalized his self-promotion on a medallion that is being given out in the United Nations these days. As Blic learns, the Serbian Government not only has not made any decisions regarding Vuk Jeremic, but there has not been any talk at all about Jeremic as Serbia's potential candidate.

Asked about whether the Government had made any decisions regarding its candidacy for the secretary general of the United Nations, Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said in a statement to Blic:

"Countries nominate their candidates. Serbia has not nominated anyone yet. There have been some consultations with Jeremic about his plans, but no decision has been made and we are not planning to make any decisions at this time.

A medallion with the name of Vuk Jeremic and the inscription "Sarbia's candidate" and in the middle the years of his term 2017-2022, has appeared recently in the UN building. Our source, who has seen the medallion in the UN building, said that the "self-proclamation medallion appeared at the same time as Jeremic."

However, it cannot be said with certainty whether Jeremic has been giving it out personally or not. The reports that Vuk Jeremic could be the next UN secretary general after Ban Ki-moon has been associated with the possibility of the new number one man in the United Nations coming from an eastern European country. However, Jeremic is not the only possible candidate from that part of the world. Other people being mentioned as possible candidates include Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak, UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, and Danilo Tirk, former president of Slovenia.

As Blic has learned from a foreign diplomat who asked to remain anonymous, three western permanent UN members have said they would veto the election of Vuk Jeremic.

"Three permanent members: the United States, Great Britain, and France, have announced their vetoes. However, Jeremic is hoping that in turn Russia and China would block all the other candidates," our source said. According to the UN voting system, if there is even only one definite veto, a candidate cannot be elected. Our source says that Jeremic is counting on the possibility of the UN Security Council not being able to agree and that the election would be transferred to the UN General Assembly, where voting is done according to who gets the biggest number of votes and where there is no veto.

Asked what certain EU countries have against Jeremic, our source said that it was the "last-minute" submission of his candidacy for chairman of the UN General Assembly against a Lithuanian who had been considered as the main candidate and that such a thing was considered as a "violation of gentlemanly conduct."

On the upper part of the medallion it says H.E. VJ and under that it says "Serbian candidate." In the middle it gives the years of his term, 2017-2022 and the acronym for Secretary General of the United Nations.

We were not successful in obtaining any comment from Vuk Jeremic regarding the fact that he has promoted himself and is posing as a candidate [for secretary general of the United Nations] without the Serbian Government having made any decision about that. The people in Vuk Jeremic's team have confirmed to Blic that the government has not made any decisions regarding his nomination and denied the existence of any kind of badge or campaign for the UN secretary general. Following his term as chairman of the UN General Assembly Jeremic has been heading the CIRSD [Centre for International Relations and Sustainable Development].
