Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card

Quote
A powerful secret. A dangerous path.

Rigg is well trained at keeping secrets. Only his father knows the truth about Rigg's strange talent for seeing the paths of people's pasts. But when his father dies, Rigg is stunned to learn just how many secrets Father had kept from him--secrets about Rigg's own past, his identity, and his destiny. And when Rigg discovers that he has the power not only to see the past, but also to change it, his future suddenly becomes anything but certain.

Rigg’s birthright sets him on a path that leaves him caught between two factions, one that wants him crowned and one that wants him dead. He will be forced to question everything he thinks he knows, choose who to trust, and push the limits of his talent…or forfeit control of his destiny.

I Nensi Kolins ima novi roman  :D :|  :!:

Right Hand Magic (Golgotham 01) by Nancy A. Collins

Quote
Like most Manhattanites, aspiring artist Tate can't resist a good rental deal-even if it's in the city's strangest neighborhood, Golgotham, where for centuries werewolves, centaurs, and countless other creatures have roamed the streets.

Her new landlord is a sorcerer name Hexe, who is determined to build his reputation without using dark, left-hand magic. As Tate is drawn into Hexe's fascinating world, they both find that the right hand does not always know what the left hand is doing-and avoiding darkness is no easy trick...

The Horns of Ruin by Tim Akers

Quote
Akers (Heart of Veridon) creates a complex steampunk world in which rival brothers Morgan, Alexander, and Amon are revered as gods. The last of Morgan's Paladins, Eva Forge, is tasked with providing security for Barnabas, the Fratriarch of the Cult of Morgan, just as a plot is set in motion--ostensibly by the remnants of the Cult of Amon--to destroy the Morganites. As she travels from the monorails above the city of Ash to the hidden underground lairs of the remaining Amonites, Forge is forced to face her preconceptions and question her training and her understanding of the world in which she lives. Ash is a vibrant city, and the cults of the three brothers have a relationship as ambivalent and complicated as the relationship among any actual siblings.

ARC nastavka "Imena vetra" Patrika Rotfasa ima 1100 džebenih stranica! To je za 100 stranica više od Sandersonovog Way of Kings! I taj sam ARC čitao jedno pola meseca!

Neverovatno.

March in Country: A Novel of the Vampire Earth by E.E. Knight

Quote
The national bestselling "master of deception and tension" (Black Gate) returns to the Vampire Earth...

The race is on to claim the area between the Ohio River and Tennessee. What's left of the resistance is hiding out in the tangle of central Kentucky hills- leaving the powerful, well-organized Kurian vampires the opportunity to fill the void.

Major David Valentine knows there's only one way for them to find help before the Kurians settle in: a desperate dash by hijacked rail, followed by a harrowing river journey.

Valentine unites friends old and new in the effort- but the Kurian Order won't easily yield the blood-soaked Kentucky soil.

Nova knjiga Ketrin Valente:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/0765326302/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books

Deathless, the new novel by award-winning author Catherynne M. Valente, re-envisions the story of Russian folk figures Koschei the Deathless and Marya Morevna. It's due out from Tor Books on March 29, but Cat and artist Amy Houser put together an awesome mini-comic depicting Marya Morevna's encounter with the household domovoi.

Quote
Koschei the Deathless is to Russian folklore what devils or wicked witches are to European culture: a menacing, evil figure; the villain of countless stories which have been passed on through story and text for generations. But Koschei has never before been seen through the eyes of Catherynne Valente, whose modernized and transformed take on the legend brings the action to modern times, spanning many of the great developments of Russian history in the twentieth century.

Deathless, however, is no dry, historical tome: it lights up like fire as the young Marya Morevna transforms from a clever child of the revolution, to Koschei’s beautiful bride, to his eventual undoing. Along the way there are Stalinist house elves, magical quests, secrecy and bureaucracy, and games of lust and power. All told, Deathless is a collision of magical history and actual history, of revolution and mythology, of love and death, which will bring Russian myth back to life in a stunning new incarnation.

Jedni imaju sve, a drugi nemaju ništa.

While Mortals Sleep: Unpublished Short Fiction by Kurt Vonnegut

Quote
From Publishers Weekly
The 16 previously unpublished short stories of this collection, taken from the beginning of Vonnegut's career, show a young author already grappling with themes and ideas that would define his work for decades to come. "Girl Pool" features typist Amy Lou Little, employee of the Kafkaesque Montezuma Forge and Foundry Company, who is tasked with transcribing a plea for help she receives on her Dictaphone from an escaped, dying murderer hiding somewhere in the works of the company's cavernous factory. The tale reveals Vonnegut investigating one of his recurring themes: the isolation brought by technology and the necessity for basic humanity in the workplace. The title story melds a sentimental meditation on the true meaning of Christmas with elements of the mystery genre as a hard-nosed reporter stalks the story of stolen nativity scene characters. While these early stories show an author still testing the boundaries of his craft and obsessions, Vonnegut's acute moral sense and knack for compelling prose are very much on display. In the foreword, Dave Eggers calls Vonnegut "a hippie Mark Twain," which perfectly captures an essential truth about this esteemed author.

Early in his career, before he fused his satirical wit and world-weary intellect in the distinctive, quasi-sf style of Cat’s Cradle (1963) and Slaughterhouse-Five (1969), Vonnegut wrote short stories for mainstream publications, such as Collier’s and The Saturday Evening Post. The 16 unpublished stories in this collection were either not submitted or not accepted, although it is easy to imagine them appearing in those contexts. Tightly and crisply written, they concern cynical newspapermen and the spirit of Christmas (“While Mortals Sleep”), practical jokes taken too far (“Bomar”), the self-sacrifice of a pregnant widow (“Ruth”)—he had lived through the firebombing of Dresden but had not yet explored it in fiction. There are foreshadowings of Vonnegut the cynical sage, however, in “With His Hand on the Throttle,” when a woman dive-bombs her grown son’s overgrown train layout; in “Tango,” when libidinous dancing disrupts a WASP-y enclave; and in “Girl Pool,” in which alienation arrives via the Dictaphone. As in Look at the Birdie (2009), these stories, while clearly seminal, constitute a worthwhile contribution to the author’s oeuvre. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: The legendary author’s death in 2007 means an eventual end to unpublished writings, and Vonnegut fans have read all their old paperbacks to tatters.

Da se malo vratimo na stimpank:

The Buntline Special: A Weird West Tale by Michael D. Resnick

Quote
In this lusterless steampunk western, Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday are outfitted with superhard brass body armor and Gatling-style handguns; Thomas Edison is a cyborg working with Ned Buntline on motorized stagecoaches and other wonders; lawman Bat Masterson has vampiric tendencies; gunslinger Johnny Ringo is a zombie bent on besting Holliday in a gunfight; and Geronimo is a successful shaman and general making sure the United States stops at the Mississippi. Five-time Hugo winner Resnick brings a sparse, dialogue-centric writing style to the classic story of the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, twisting it ever so slightly to blend magic and mechanism into its narrative weave. The larger story of the feud is untouched, making Resnick's rendition feel like a copycat of Tombstone with gears glued on.

Why shouldn't things be largely absurd, futile, and transitory? They are so, and we are so, and they and we go very well together.

In Fire Forged: Worlds of Honor V by David Weber

Quote
Honor Harrington is arguably the most popular character in modern science fiction, but there are many other stories in the Honorverse besides those in which she has the central role. This fifth volume in the popular Worlds of Honor series explores some of those stories with the help of such top writers as best-selling author Jane LIndskjold, New York Times best-selling author Timothy Zahn, and more—including an all-new Honor Harrington adventure, set in her younger years, when a mob of space pirates made the mistake of tangling with Commander Harrington. That was a fatal mistake—for the pirates . . .

Blackveil: Book Four of Green Rider by Kristen Britain

Quote
The long-awaited sequel to Green Rider, First Rider's Call, and The High King's Tomb.

Once a simple student, Karigan G'ladheon finds herself in a world of deadly danger and complex magic, compelled by forces she cannot understand when she becomes a legendary Green Rider-one of the magical messengers of the king. Forced by magic to accept a dangerous fate she would never have chosen, headstrong Karigan has become completely devoted to the king and her fellow Riders.

But now, an insurrection led by dark magicians threatens to break the boundaries of ancient, evil Blackveil Forest-releasing powerful dark magics that have been shut away for a millennium.

Blackveil is the long awaited sequel the Green Rider series and I can truthfully say that it certainly surpassed my expectations. When the first book, Green Rider, came out, it was described as a wonderful read and adventurous escapism. It had cliched fantasy elements but reminded readers of why cliches are LOVED and enjoyed.

In Blackveil, many, MANY characters have stepped out of their cliched roles (unwilling heroine, trusted comrades and allies, good king, etc). Britain shows how each one must deal with not only preparing for looming evil forces, but also their own inner turmoils. I found that there were times when I disliked some of my fave characters for their opinions and decisions. That is NOT a bad thing (although it did make me very sad at times). It's fascinating to learn so many new facets of familiar characters.

One thing I disliked was the constant summaries of events from previous novels. They were quite redundant and tedious to read through. These summaries happen a lot almost through the first quarter of the book. To me, many of the more interesting action unfold much later on. I was also quite surprised at how certain events unfolded. They left me eager to turn the next page.

Blackveil is definitely not as lighthearted as the first book (but please, don't let that intimidate you. To fans of previous books, it is quite worth it to read this). To me, it's a significant book in the series because I see the flaws and virtues of many beloved characters.

Sebarsko je da budu gladni.
