Abdelhakim Belhadj (Arabic: عبد الحكيم بالحاج ‎, nom de guerre Abu Abdallah Assadaq[1]) is the emir of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group,[2][3] and a Libyan commander of the anti-Gaddafi forces in the civil war that started in 2011.

Born in 1966 in the Souq al Jum'aa area of Tripoli, he studied at Al Fateh University, where he earned a civil engineering degree.[4]

Wanting to rid Libya of Colonel Gadaffi, Belhadj joined other young Islamists who formed a group, but were pursued from the country before they could achieve anything.[5] Leaving the country, via Saudi Arabia he arrived in Afghanistan,[5] and became an Islamist fighter in the Soviet-Afghan war.[3]

In 1992, after the Mujahideen took Kabul, he travelled across the Middle East and Eastern Europe, before retunring to Libya in 1992.[5] There he formed with others the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), which tried to overthrow Colonel Gaddafi from 1994 onwards. Belhadj was known during this period as Abu Abdullah al-Sadiq, and was part of the LIFG that fought an insurgency campaign based from eastern Libya. But after three unsuccessful assassination attempts on Gadaffi, the LIFG was crushed in 1998.[4]

Belhadj and other leaders of the LIFG fled to Afghanistan, and joined the Taliban. In 2002, after the September 11 attacks and Gadaffi's reconciliation with the west, an arrest warreant was isssued for Belhaj by the Libyan authorities. In it, it was alleged that Belhaj had developed "close relationships" with al-Qaeda leaders, and specifically Taliban chief Mullah Omar.[4] Based in Jalalabad, he is alleged to have run and financed training camps for Arab mujahideen fighters.[4] After the United States entered Afghanistan under the command of the United Nations to confront the Taliban, the remaining members of the LIFG left the country, and roamed Europe and South East Asia.[4]

Tracked by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), after a tip-off from MI6 gained from London-based informants,[6] Belhadj was arrested with his pregnant wife in 2004 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia.[5]

Transferred on the same plane to Bangkok, he was then placed in the custody of the CIA, where he was retained at a secret prison at the airport.[5][3] Returned to Libya, he was held and tortured in Abu Salim prison for seven years.

In 2010 under a "de-radicalisation" drive championed by Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the Libyan authorities released him amongst 170 other Libyan Islamists.[3] In March 2011, Belhadj appeared in an unreleased al-Jazeera film, in which he praised the mediation of Saif al-Islam for his release. In responce, Gaddafi's son said that the men who had been freed "were no longer a danger to society."[7]

NATO's triumph in Libya threatens to spin out of control and into an Iraq-style civil war

Enough about The Big G's downfall. Now comes the real nitty-gritty; Afghanistan 2.0, Iraq 2.0, or a mix of both.

The "NATO rebels" have always made sure they don't want foreign occupation. But the North Atlantic Treaty Organization - which made the victory possible - can't control Libya without boots on the ground. So multiple scenarios are now being gamed in NATO's headquarters in Mons, Belgium - under a United Nations velvet cushion.

According to already leaked plans, sooner or later there may be troops from Persian Gulf monarchies and friendly allies such as Jordan and especially NATO member Turkey, also very keen to bag large commercial contracts. Hardly any African nations will be part of it - Libya now having being "relocated" to Arabia.

The Transitional National Council (TNC) will go for it - or forced to go for it - if, or when, Libya spirals into chaos. Still it will be an extremely hard sell - as the wildly disparate factions of "NATO rebels" are frantically consolidating their fiefdoms, and getting ready to turn on each other.

There's no evidence so far the TNC - apart from genuflecting in the altar of NATO member nations - has any clue about managing a complex political landscape inside Libya.

Everyone in Libya is now virtually armed to its teeth. The economy is paralyzed. A nasty catfight over who will control Libya's unfrozen billions of dollars is already on.

In Tripoli, rebels from Zintan, in the western mountains, control the airport. The central bank, Tripoli's port and the Prime Minister's office are being controlled by rebels from Misrata. Berbers from the mountain town of Yafran control Tripoli's central square, now spray-painted "Yafran Revolutionaries". All these territories are clearly marked as a warning.

As the TNC, as a political unit, already behaves like a lame duck; and as the militias will simply not vanish - it's not hard to picture Libya also as a new Lebanon; the war in Lebanon began when each neighborhood in Beirut was carved up between Sunnis, Shi'ites, Christian Maronites, Nasserites and Druse.

The Lebanonization of Libya, on top of it, includes the deadly Islamic temptation - which is spreading like a virus all across the Arab Spring.

At least 600 Salafis who fought in the Sunni Iraqi resistance against the US were liberated from Abu Salim prison by the rebels. It's easy to picture them profiting from the widespread looting of kalashnikovs and shoulder-launched Soviet Sam-7 anti-aircraft missiles to bolster their own hardcore Islamist militia - following their own agenda, and their own guerrilla war.

The African Union (AU) will not recognize the TNC; in fact, it charges the NATO rebels of indiscriminate killing of black Africans, all bundled up as "mercenaries".

To see where this thing is going, one has to look at the desert. The immense southern Libyan desert was not conquered by NATO. The TNC has no access to virtually all of Libya's water and a lot of oil.

Gaddafi has a chance of "working the desert", of negotiating with a number of tribes, to buy or consolidate their allegiance and organize a sustained guerrilla war.

NATO's "humanitarian" operation has unleashed at least 30,000 bombs over Libya over these past few months. It's safe to say that many thousands of Libyans have been killed by the bombing. The bombing never stops; soon NATO may be targeting some of those - civilians or not - it was in theory "protecting" until a few days ago.

A defeated Big G can reveal himself to be even more dangerous than a Big G in power. The real war starts now. It will be infinitely more dramatic - and tragic. Because now it will be a Darwinian, northern African, war of all against all.

Ја их из поштовања већ дуже време ословљавам Албанцима.

Али службена држава ФНРЈ/СФРЈ је негде до краја 50-их или почетка 60-их имала "Шиптари" као службени назив тог народа баш зато што се сматрало да је предратни турцизам ("арнаут(ск)и") био политички-некоректан. То Шиптари је био најближи њиховом Ш(ћ)ип(е)тар.

UN pozvale Saleha da ode s vlasti

Njujork -- Savet bezbednosti UN usvojio je rezoluciju u kojoj se predsednik Jemena Ali Abdulah Saleh poziva da odmah potpiše sporazum o odlasku sa vlasti.

Jednoglasno usvojena rezolucija "oštro osuđuje" smrtonosne vladine napade na demonstrante i podržava mirovni plan Saveta za zalivsku saradnju po kome će Saleh okončati svoju 33-godišnju vlast.

Ovo je prva rezolucija o Jemenu od početka masovnih protesta u januaru ove godine u kojima je ubijeno nekoliko stotina ljudi.

Savet bezbednosti poziva Saleha da održi obećanje i odmah potpiše plan GČ za miroljubivi prenos vlasti "bez odlaganja" i da okonča eskalaciju nasilja.

Saleh je ranije izjavio da se slaže sa planom šest zalivskih zemalja, ali je odbio da ga potpiše i da sprovede bilo koju njegovu tačku, prenosi AFP.

Rezolucija oštro osuđuje kontinuirano kršenje ljudskih prava od strane jemenskih vlasti, kao što je preterana upotreba sile protiv mirnih demonstratora, zahteva od svih strana da odbace upotrebu sile zaradi političkih ciljeva, i ističe da svi odgovorni za nasilje, kršenje ljudskih prava i zloupotrebe moraju odgovarati.

Rezolucija izražava ozbiljnu zabrinutost zbog pogoršanja bezbednosne situacije i pogoršanja ekonomske i humanitarne situacije u Jemenu "zbog nedostatka napretka u političkom rešenju i moguće eskalacije nasilja".

Mnogi građani Jemena, podseća AP, optužuju Saleha da gura zemlju u građanski rat.

Karakas -- Doktor koji je rekao da je predsednik Venecuele Ugo Čaves teško bolestan i da mu je ostalo još samo dve godine života, pobegao je iz zemlje,

On je sa svojom porodicom napustio zemlju, strahujući za betbednost.

Doktor Salvador Navarete je ovu izjavu dao prošle nedelje, ističući da Čaves boluje od veoma agresivnog tipa kancera, nakon čega je, kako je rekao, policija pretražila dokumentaciju i kompjutere u njegovoj ordinaciji.

Naverate, koji je lečio Čavesa pre 10 godina, u intervjuu za meksički časopis "Milenio", objavljen u ponedeljak, rekao je da je informaciju o ozbiljnosti Čavesove bolesti dobio od predsednikove porodice, javio je Bi-Bi-Si (BBC).

Čaves je u četvrtak, po povratku sa lekarskog pregleda na Kubi, gde je pre četiri meseca operisan, a zatim podvrgnut hemoterapijama, izjavio da je potpuno izlečen.

Budući da je u javnost izneto vrlo malo informacija o njegovoj bolesti, pojavile su se brojne špekulacije o tome da je njegovo zdravstveno stanje gore nego što se zvanično tvrdi.

U međuvremenu, Čaves, koji se na vlasti nalazi od 1999. godine, najavio je da će se kandidovati na izborima 2012. za novi šestogodišnji predsednički mandat.
